Ayli Meyer

Cronkite graduate student Ayli Meyer’s assignment was simple enough: write a monthy “spotlight” piece for Houston’s annual Jewish Herald Voice on three recipients of the 2008 Israel Action Campus Fellowship.

Totally simple.

And, like, totally a great summer job to prime her for the first semester at the Cronkite School. Right?

Totally.

Totally true, that is, until one of the three women who Meyer was writing about asked for an advance copy of the article.

And Ayli complied.

And Ayli lived to regret it.

Suddenly it was no longer totally cool.

The 21-year-old Israel Action Fellow, a student at Rice University, issued a same-day email demanding the information about her not be published in the Jewish Herald article, claiming “she was young, only 21, and there was already too much information about her out there”.

“The information wasn’t personal at all,” Meyer says. “But after contacting my editor, I knew we had to cut it out.”

When in doubt, cut it out.

Totally, totally, cut it out.

I’d say secessionism suits her as far as strategery goes, but clearly I’m no Karl Rove. Apparently the Republican Party has some sort of problem with their VP pick coming across as a contiguious-US-hating whackjob.

According to Jake Tapper, members of the “fringe” Alaskan Independence Party have said she belonged to their party in the 90′s. NYT reporter Elisabeth Blumiller and others have also reported on this claim.

But according to McCain press blogger Michael Goldfarb, Tapper and Bumiller are full of it. He says Bumiller’s report about being a member of the Alaskan Independance Party was totally unsourced and just plain incorrect.

Who would you trust?

No matter what you choose to believe before all the facts are in, be sure to watch the video below. It disturbs, informs, and arouses all at the same time. Citizens across all political parties should come together, elect this woman VP, then scatter before she guns us all down.

Brown’s tirade against the student, who was in the middle of an internship at CNN, was the product of the student’s failure to post a story quick enough to the news service’s website.

This student’s response came with nary a pause after asking him about his most insecure moment working at CNN. Though he recalled the incident with an expected degree of embarrassment and residual terror, it wasn’t the trauma of the confrontation that had stuck, but rather the satisfaction of having stood up to it.

It is not by design that this first dispatch from The Steamroom comes from a student who wishes to remain anonymous. But as I emerged from the YMCA steam room following the student, his flip-flops clucking against his still-wet feet and no more than a white towel between him and the world, I knew I would have to honor his request and keep his identity confined to the steam room.

Besides, take a quick look at the picture above. Now look again. If there were ever a CNN anchorwoman who could paralyze a viewer with her good looks long enough to hop the next flight to your doorstep in order to rip your throat out, you are looking at her. If only for that reason alone, I would wish to remain anonymous in his position, too.
